Friends of the Salish Sea is thrilled to welcome Cynthia Gardner as our upcoming guest lecturer! Cynthia is a scientist emerita for the U.S. Geological Survey at the Cascades Volcano Observatory. She has worked for the Volcano Hazards Program since 1983. Her research focus has been eruptive history and eruptive processes at explosive volcanoes. In addition to her research, she has worked with emergency managers at all governmental levels since the late 1990s to develop interagency response plans in the event of volcanic activity. She has experience in responding to volcanic unrest in the Cascades, Alaska, and the Caribbean. She was the USGS eruptive coordinator for the Mount St. Helens eruption and was the Scientist-in-Charge of the USGS’ Cascades Volcano Observatory.
