Lecture Series

Friends of the Salish Sea Lecture Series brings engaging, expert-led talks about marine science, ecology, and the natural world of the Salish Sea. Our free gatherings connect curious community members with researchers, local scientists, and educators who share cutting-edge knowledge and inspiring stories about the waters, wildlife, and environments we all love.

Join Us in Anacortes, Edmonds & Olympia

We host the lecture series in multiple locations, expanding opportunities for learning and community engagement throughout our region.

A long-standing home for our fall and winter talks, where seasonally rotating topics bring audiences together to explore the Salish Sea from every angle. Visit the Anacortes page for details on upcoming talks and registration.

Expanding our reach southward, the new Edmonds & Olympia series invites community members in south Puget Sound to join similar expert-led presentations and discussions.  Visit the Edmonds page and the Olympia page for details on upcoming talks and registration.

A Look Back On Last Year's Lectures

Thank you for helping us make last year’s Anacortes Lecture Series a success! Click below to take a look at our last year’s amazing guest speakers. From learning about Giant Pacific Octopuses to the volcanoes of Washington State, we learned so much for our phenomenal expert lecturers.

History Of The Lecture Series

The original lecture series was started in Anacortes in 2005 as a class project by a small group of Washington State University (WSU) Beach Watcher students. Recognizing that the public had a keen interest in the local marine environment and the natural world, the Beach Watcher students were determined to connect this knowledge-hungry public with regional experts on a variety of environmentally oriented topics. And the rest is history!
